Some Recent Spanish Wines

Freixenet Cordon Negro Brut Cava NV approximately $12 (media sample)
Made from 35% Macabeo, 25% Xarel-lo and 40% Parellada
Clear and bubbly. Clean, light aromas and flavors of pear and lemon. Light body with high acidity and medium alcohol with a medium length finish. Some guests drank it alone and some mixed it with juice for brunch cocktails, it worked equally well both ways. Recommended.

Elyssia Gran Cuvee Brut Cava NV approximately $18 (media sample)

Clear and bubbly. Clean, light aromas and flavors of honeydew, orange and almond. Medium body and alcohol with medium high acidity and a medium length finish. Another Sunday brunch at home, we really enjoyed it. Highly Recommended.

2010 Palacio de Bornos Rueda Verdejo approxiamtely $12 at HEBClear, pale straw color. Clean, medium intense aromas and flavors of peach and pear. Light body with high acidity and medium alcohol with a medium length finish. I served this with grilled shrimp and veggie kabobs over brown rice pilaf. Recommended.

2010 Hermanos Lurton Rueda Verdejo approxiamtely $14 at Whole Foods
Clear, pale straw color. Clean, medium intense aromas and flavors of honeydew melon with a bit of peach. Medium- body with high acidity and medium alcohol with a medium length finish. I served this with homemade pizza on wheat crust topped with jalapeno/cilantro pesto and mixed Mexican cheeses, yummy. Recommended.

2009 Las Rocas de la San Alejandro Garnacha - DO Calatayud purchased at Kroger for approximately $15
Clear, deep ruby color. Clean, pronounced aromas and flavors of red currant and raspberry  with red pepper flakes and coriander. Medium+  body and tannins with high acidity and alcohol with a medium+ length with a bit of a hot alcohol finish. The bottle says 15.2% abv. but it feels like it is higher. Good, my husband liked it more than I did, we had it with pulled pork sandwiches.
