The day started as a typical Sunday morning. I woke up to the sound of my two children arguing over who got the last piece of bacon from breakfast. My wife was cooking eggs for them and talking on the phone with her mom while I went into the living room to read a book. We all ate together that morning, but then we had plans for an afternoon gathering at our friend’s house across town. By 3 pm, we were in their driveway, ready to leave when our youngest son said he wanted pizza before going anywhere else. The only problem was that there wasn’t any pizza nearby so we decided it would be too much trouble and left for our friends’.
My wife and I sat in the living room with them while our kids ran around playing games. We all had a glass of wine during dinner, but we decided to try something different from what they usually serve at parties when it was time for dessert. Our friend gets his French wines from California, so he always has some on hand that people can try. One of them is a red wine made with Cabernet grapes, and the other one has Chardonnay.
We started drinking more than we usually do at parties, but I’m not sure if that’s because we were all having such a good time or because they’re wines from France. Either way, by the end of the night, we were all feeling pretty good. The kids went to sleep early in my friend’s guest bedroom, but by midnight it was just our friends that were still up playing games and drinking wine.
We stayed at their house until three o’clock in the morning when everyone decided they should go home before getting too tired to drive. We ended up leaving and going back to our house, but we didn’t get home until after four o’clock.
My wife and I tried to go straight to bed, but she was having too much fun with her friends, so we ended up watching TV until morning.
When we woke up the next day, it felt kind of strange because my youngest son didn’t want any bacon for breakfast like he usually does on Sundays. So instead, we had cereal and watched TV together. I can see that my family will have a hard time getting back into the routine after our weekend away.
